    The course is delivered using a blended learning model, combining online, structured training, project-based learning, and practical placements.

    The estimated duration is 6 - 12 months.

    Students should also allow for 12-15 hours of self-guided learning per week. Time to complete the course may vary depending on experience and support needs.

What you need to study

Educational Requirements

Students should have a Year 10 School Certificate or equivalent to meet the LLN requirements of the course. Anyone without a Certificate will be required to complete a LLN assessment to ensure they have the level of skills and experience to undertake the training program.

To successfully complete this course, it is recommended students have access to a personal computer or laptop, and a personal internet connection.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

A USI is required by all Australian students undertaking nationally recognised training. If you do not have a USI, please visit the USI website.

Work Placement

Practical, work skills placements are available for students studying in Blended mode.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Graduate Outcomes

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. 

These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

  • HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
  • CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care
  • CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia       
  • CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
  • CHCDIS011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
  • CHCDIS012 Support community participation and social inclusion
  • CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support

Assessments

You will be required to complete knowledge based and practical assessments, these may include:

  • Question and Answers
  • Written Reports
  • Presentations
  • Projects
  • Demonstration in the workplace or in a simulated workplace environment

Students studying online, may be asked to submit videos as evidence of the application of practical skills.

In this course, you will undertake summative and formative assessments, write reports, and participate in role-playing scenarios. You will also be working on a variety of projects that require your own research as well as answering various written/oral questions that apply the theory you learn.

Licensing and Certification Outcomes

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Recognition of Prior Learning

You may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer (CT) provided that you have supporting evidence of any prior education and work experience. This can either reduce your study load or shorten the duration of your course. Applications for these credits can be made following enrolment in the course.

Fees

Fee-Free, Subsidised training & traineeships (This training is subsidised by the NSW Government via Smart and Skilled for Eligible Students).

NSW Government fee-free and subsidised places may be available for eligible participants.

Funded and subsidised places available for this course are limited. 

You will be advised of your eligibility for a fee-free or subsidised place upon application

General Eligibility requirements (additional eligibility criteria may also be assessed):

  • 15 years old or over
  • No longer at school
  • Living or working in NSW
  • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen   

Those who are not eligible or do not receive a funded/subsided enrolment are able to enrol in the course with full fee payment.

Those who are only eligible for a part subsidy will be notified of their expected fees. Please note that students with any course fees are required to complete a course deposit prior to finalising their enrolment.

Full course fee = $6,930 ($462 per Unit of Competency)

Full fee payment schedule = $1,500 due prior to course commencement + 4 scheduled payments of $1,357.50 throughout course duration

Administration fee = $500*
